The Tree CompanyThe new Transmedia designed and hosted website for the Tree Company is now online. The Tree Company, an arboricultural company based in Houslow, is dedicated to the conservation of trees in the urban and woodland environment. They provide tree surgery and tree consultancy services to individuals, organisations, schools, colleges and local authorities. Their clients include The National Trust and The Royal Parks.

The new website is built using the Joomla CMS platform and features many cutting edge modules and extensions to enhance its function, usability and ease of maintenance. In all there are over twenty third-party extensions installed in addition to Joomla's core components.

Transmedia have also rebuilt The Tree Company's IT infrastructure from scratch; removing bulky file servers, noisy MS Exchange servers, and overheating workstations and replacing them with greener alternatives. The mail functions have been moved off-site to the "cloud" so there is no longer a mailserver to power and maintain; the beige behemoths that passed for workstations have been superceeded by tiny nettops that are whisper quiet and use only 10% as much electricity.

Finally, we have moved all the software used by The Tree Company over to Open Source applications, replacing expensive Microsoft licences such as Microsoft Office and Windows Server with free Google Applications and Sun Microsystem's Open Office.
